Kill a Mastermind (1979)

               Sun Chung's masterpiece that only very few fans know about.To me this is his most brutal,most action packed Wuxia compared to his other films like Avenging Eagle,Judgement of an Assassin,Human Lanterns,Rendezvous with Death.This movie has got to be focused on more villians than heroes as well.Another  reason this movie wasnt taken that serious is because the most known actor is Johny Wang Lung Wei.He plays the head chief of the Assassins.

Jade Tiger (1977)

Wrong Side of Town

 Wrong Side of Town is another low budget movie that suffers from bad acting,writing,bad choice of actors.
The film takes place in Louisiana.The dvd cover is exrtemely false advertising.Dave Bautista has about 3 or 4 scenes in the movie,and he is not the lead actor but supporting.Rob Van Dam is the protagonist.He is known for his wrestling career and other B movies he has made in the past like Superfights,Bloodmoon,Xfiles episode.
Ja rule has only one scene in the movie.His hiphop career as well as his acting career has also faded into obscurity.Omarion is also listed as well like he's a big part of the story.Not to spoil anything he also has one scene in the movie playing a thug.

 As far as the action is pretty descent.The Budget for this movie was 1,500,000 so you really cant blame it.It has some funny B rated scenes,language,hot chicks and some nice boobie shots.The fight scenes have some good Rock music so it went well in sync.Dave Bautista has a pretty good fight with an unknown martial artist thats half his size.His name is Marrece Crump.So far his career is looking good so far he's to star in the next Protector movie with Tony Jaa,so Kudos to him.

As for the storyline this is it:
Ex-Navy Seal Bobby Kalinowski lives a quiet, peaceful life as a landscape architect in an LA suburb with his wife Dawn and 16 year old daughter Brianna. Tonight they are invited out for an evening on the town by new neighbors clay and Elise Freeman to a happening club downtown. Little did they know that this would be the start of a life or death ordeal for the group. While at the club, Dawn is accosted by one of the club owners, Ethan Bordas. When Bobby intervenes and accidentally kills Ethan defending his wife, his enraged older brother, Seth, puts a one hundred thousand dollar bounty on his head. Now Bobby must escape LA while being pursued by every criminal, wise guy and thug in the city. Bobby decides to separate from his wife and neighbors and revert to his Navy Seal training to survive. To complicate matters, Seth has a corrupt police sergeant preventing Bobby from getting any help from the law.

Soul of the Sword (1978)

Soul of the Sword was released in 1978.It is one of Ti Lung's best Shaw Brother's movies.It is directed by Hua Shan,whose credits include Angel Force, Disciples of Shaolin Temple(Fortune Star),Little Dragon Maiden,Portrait in Crystal,Tales of an Eunuch,Usurpers of Emperor's Power,Flying Guilotine 2,Kill a Jaguar,Super Inframan.It also stars Ku Feng(Avenging Eagle,New One Armed Swordsman),Li Chen Chi(Battle Wizard,Heaven and Hell),Norman Chu(Duel to the Death,Bastard Swordsman 1&2)

In the world of martial arts,the king of swords(Ku Feng) is ready to retire.He has been on top of the game for decades.A young boy Nameless(Ti Lung) has seen most of his battles.After watching a young swordsman with his wife challenge King of Swords,the young man loses the duel along with his life.His wife decides to take her life by stabbing herself with her lover's sword.Days later Nameless tries to assassinate King of Swords and fails.King of Swords spares his life and tells him if he wants to challenge him he must challenge him to a duel.Nameless then grows up to be a man and fights his way to the top,to finally one day challenge King of Swords and take his title.

This is one of Ti Lung's early movies.As well as one of his best.His fighting ability and acting ability is superb.He stops at nothing to challenge all of the swordsmen to defeat Ku Feng.

Super Fights (1995)

    Superfights was the first Western Film from action director Tony Leung.His credits include appearences in movies in 36 Crazyfists,Ip Man,Monkey Kung Fu,Duel of the Seven Tigers.He is mostly known for being behind the camera doing stunts and action choreography for movies like Killer's Blues,Long Arm of the Law 3,In the Line of Duty 3,Ip Man.His directing credits include Thunderclap,Ultimate Fight,Bloodmoon,Guns of Dragons.

 The cast of Superfights is not very known,but just because they are not known does not mean that they dont know what they are doing.At the time this movie was filmed there was other movies in the works like Mortal Kombat,Street Fighter,Van Damme,Steven Seagal.

Bastard Swordsman

An earlier Wuxia film that was released in the early 80s at the same time of other movies like Holy Flame of the Martial World,Zu Warriors,Shaolin Prince.The movie is directed by Tony Liu Juk,who has not been recognized like other Chinese directors like Chang Cheh,John Woo,Yuen Woo Ping,Lau Kar Leung,Sammo Hung.

 Bastard Swordsman is a two movie series about two clans at war.Wu Dang and Invincible Clan.Alex Man Chi Leung(New Tales of Flying Fox,Journey of the Doomed,Hidden Power of Dragon Sabre,Tragic Hero) stars as the chief of Invincible Clan.Wong Yung(Supreme Swordsman,Godfather of Canton,Bat without Wings,Proud Twins)stars as the chief of Wu Dang.The Lead actor is Norman Chu AKA Tsiu Siu Keung who has starred in many martial arts movies like Duel to the Death,the Sword with Adam Cheng,36th Chamber,Shaolin Mantis,Hong Kong Godfather,Return of the Deadly Blade,Challenger,Loot,What Price Honesty,Lady Assassin,Fiery Family.He is rejected by the Wu Dang Clan for being a bastard child and is more like a servant who cannot be taught how to fight.

 There are plenty of action scenes wether it is with all types of martial arts weapons and hand to hand combat.There is also some Wire Fu but it is used to the best ability.There are many famous martial artists in the series that play supporting roles that include Wilson Tong(Daggers 8),Sun Chien(5 Venoms),Lo Meng(5 Venoms,Ip Man 2,Gallants)Yuen Tak(the Master,Hero SB),Kwan Feng(Monkey Kung Fu,5 Superfighters),Tony Liu(Human Lanterns,Lady Assassin,Secret Service of Imperial Court.

Shaolin Plot

 Around the time of the Lau Kar Leung era with movies like Heroes of the East,and 36th Chamber.Director Huang Feng directs his own version about Shaolin monks and Warlords in Shaolin Plot.Huang Feng is famous for his movies worldwide like Hapkido,When Tae Kwon Do Strikes,Bandits from Shantung,Stoner The Tournament,Himalayan.If you seen those films you know that Feng does not dissapoint and brings action to the table.

 Chen Sing is the baddie in this one and it is one of his best bad guy roles as Prince Daglen who is a warlord and wants to take over the martial world by taking on all the clans including Wutang and Shaolin.James Tien plays the son of one of the clan members whose manual is with him and does not want them to have it.He escapes and takes seclusion in Shaolin Temple.

  There are many appereances by many famous martial arts actors in the 70s and 80s they include:Wong Hap,Lam Ching Yin,Kam Kong,Meng Hoi,Yuen Wah,Chung Fat,Yuen Biao,Stephen tung.Sammo is one of the supporting villian characters and action director.It is one of the few films that he's a baddie and his wardrobe is different from his movies.Iron Monkey's Yen Shi Kwan is one of the Emperor's bodyguards along with martial arts actor and stuntman Chin Yuet Sang.As for the good guys the two famous Korean kickers Casanova Wong and Kwan Yung Moon play Shaolin Monks and boy do they show their kicking skills.

 This movie definitely gives a run to many Chang Cheh movies and Sun Chung movies a run for their money.Along with the John Woo masterpiece Last Hurrah For Chivalry.It is a Wuxia all the way with hand to hand combat,and weaponry fighting.A Golden Harvest Classic for sure and to be in your Kung Fu collection.

Mercenaries From Hong Kong (1982)

Before Sylvester Stallone's Expendables,before Eastern Condors,there came an ensemble cast from the East known as the Mercenaries from Hong Kong.This one has the baddest of the Shaw Brothers stars.Led by Ti Lung,Lo Lieh,Johny Wang Lung Wei,Chan Wai Man,Wong Yu,Phillip Ko.Another related movie like this one that was made in Hong Kong in the 80s was the Golden Harvest movie Eastern Condors with Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao

In this movie all of the Shaw Stars mentioned team up to go on a mission in Thailand.They have many different skills that makes them team players,like hand to hand combat,weapons trained,explosive trained.There are all types of action from kung fu to weapons and explosions.Phillip Ko,Yueh Wah,Ngaai Fei and Lee Hoi San play the villians and do a great job at it.

There are three famous action directors to choreograph the action scenes:Tong Gaai(Shaolin Prince),Yuen Bun(Kill a Mastermind),and Wong Pau Gei (Avenging Eagle)

This film is directed by the famous director Wong Jing(Kung Fu Cult Master,City Hunter,Future X Cops)

Avenging Eagle

Avenging Eagle was released in 1978 with an ensemble cast of many famous actors/martial artists.It is directed by Sun Chung who has also the best Kung Fu Wuxia movies ever made.In the 70s there were many directors who did the best Wuxias like Chang Cheh,Chu Yuan,Tony Liu,Lau Kar Leung.Sun Chung'sShaolin Prince directing credits if you dont know include Kill a Mastermind,Kung Fu Instructor 1&2,Fist Full of Talons,Deadly Breaking Sword,Judgement of an Assassin,Proud Youth,Rendezvous with Death.

Ti Lung and Alexander Fu Sheng are the main actors once again after past collaborations in Shaolin Temple,Deadly Breaking Sword,Sentimental Swordsman 2,Ten Tigers from Kwantung.So as you can see they both have gotten good chemistry together. Ku Feng is the leader of the 13 coldblooded eagles and it is one of his best villian performances in his career.The 13 Eagles include many famous actors like Johny Wang Lung,Yuen Bun(Rendezvous with Death,Kill a Mastermind),Dick Wei(Project A),Eddy Ko(Duel to the Death),Lam Fai Wong,Peter Chan,Bruce Tong,Austin Wai,Jaime Luk.

Tong Gaai does the fight choreography and has a small cameo role he also directed three of the best Shaw Kung Fu movies ever:Shaolin Prince,Shaolin Intruders,Opium and the Kung Fu Master.

This is a review from the Dragon Dynasty and it is the best version out there,it looks very clear and has good coloring.It includes both Mandarin Audio Track and English Dub.

Clash Aka Bay Rong (2011)

Clash is a simple low budget action movie with both good weapon scenes and fighting scenes,both martial arts action and takedowns.Also known as Bay Rong

Dont know if the movie is Vietnamese or from Thailand but it is not Korean,Japanese, or from China.It is definitely entertaining and Johny Tri Nguyen and his Girlfriend whose name I cant remember is the lead once again if you have seen the Vietnamese movie the Rebel.It is some of the production company crew that brought you The Rebel and it has very little wire or barely for the action scenes.Better than some DTV releases from Van Damme,Steve Austin and Seagal definitely and probably half the budget of a DTV in America

Johny Tri Nguyen is definitely making a name for himself and with past performances in The Protector,Rebel,Force of Five,and Cradle to the Grave.

Disciples of 36th Chamber (1985)

This is the third movie in the series of the 36th Chamber of Shaolin Series.Now Instead of Gordon Liu being the lead,Hsiao Ho is the Main character.He plays legendary hero Fong Sai Yuk of Fong Shi Yu which has been played by many famous actors like Jet Li,Alexander Fu Sheng,Meng Fei,Willie Chi Tin Sang.The movie is once again directed by Lau Kar Leung and it has many famous actors like Venom's Sun Chien,Jason Piao,Lee Hoi San I wont include the plot but trust me if its distributed by Dragon Dynasty you better believe you are watching a classic this movie was made after 8 diagram Pole fighter.

14 Blades (2009)

From all the reviews that I read above me seems like no one knows that 14 Blades is a Shaw Brothers remake of the 1984 movie Secret Service of Imperial Court directed by Tony Liu Jun Guk.

Now that I got that out of the way the modern version 14 blades is directed by mostly hit or miss Daniel Lee.His credits include Black Mask,What Price Survival,Three Kingdoms Ressurection of the Dragon,Star Runner Aka Kumite,Dragon Squad aka Dragon Heat and the upcoming Wuxia White Vengeance.As you can see from those credits most people that have seen his movies only Black Mask and What Price Survival were their favorites.

The cast includes both new actors old school Kung Fu actors from the Shaw Brothers era like Chen Kwan Tai,Wu Ma,Lam Chi Tai,Fung Hak On.From Golden Harves of course Sammo Hung which has only a supporting part and does not lay a finger on nobody,Duel to the Death's Damian Lau (if you blinked you missed him because i dont even remember him being in it).Wu Chun who looks like a pretty boy Asian Jack Sparrow,Vicky Zhao Whei,and Donnie Yen filling up for Leung Kar Yan aka Beardy.

The Cinematography is nice too look at as well as the special effects.Donnie Yen barely saves this movie and the supporting cast seems to be weak and not backing him up at all.There is both some wire fu and some good fighting scenes in this movie but unless you're a Donnie Yen fan this one is an Ok movie better than Three Kingdoms but not better than its rivals like Ip Man movies and True Legend by Yuen Woo Ping.Watch the Original it is 10 times better and did not need wire fu or GGI to make it a good movie.

Martial Arts Master Wong Fei Hung (1992)

This movie is not very known and it is way better than Once Upon a Time in China 3 thru 5.The movie is directed by veteran director/stuntman Li Chao who is famous for movies in the golden age of kung fu movies in the 70s like Ninja Supremo,Ways of Kung Fu,Cantonen Iron Kung Fu,Fearless Dragons,Kung Fu Beyond the Grave.With all that resume of movies you know your in for an entertaining No Wire Fu movie.The Action is choreographed by one of Lau Kar Leungs Stars who is Hsu Hsiao famous for Monkey Kung Fu,Disciples of Shaolin Temple,Lady is the Boss,Legendary Weapons of China,Cat Vs Rat

Chin Kar Lok who is famous for starring in Operation Scorpio and in Legend of the Drunken Master,Swordsman 2,No Problem 2.He plays a young Wong Fei Hung this time along with other big kung fu actors like Jet Li,Gordon Liu,Ku Feng,Kwan Tak Hing,Jackie Chan,Sek Kin,Wong Kwan.
This time his opponent is a Japanese Samurai who is played by no other than the famous Lam Ching Ying who has done about 80+movies.His famous work is the Prodigal Son,Hocus Pocus,Heroes Shed No Tears(John Woo),Mr. Vampire Movies,Magic Cop.Wong Fei Hung is out to fight the foreigners from Europe to stop them from having Opium spread to the other Chinese.One of the main bad guys is the underrated actor Suen Gwok Ming,who has also been in great martial arts movies like Drunken Dragon,Shaolin Avengers,Shaolin the Blood Mission,Shaolin Vs Manchu.

This movie came out in 1992 when the Kung Fu genre was dying and there was only Wire Fu used to the extreme like in movies like Swordsman,Zu Warriors,Chinese Ghost Story.Recommend this as a good New Wave Kung Fu movie with out Jet Li,Donnie Yen.

The Four Invincibles

Ku Feng who has starred in hundreds of movies.His most popular Avenging Eagle,New One Armed Swordsman,Black Magic leads three other crippled members to take revenge on an old enemy.

The Crippled or Invincibles are Hon Gwok Choi who mostly was known for small roles and stunts his movies include Fearless Hyena 2,Crazy Horse Intelligent Monkey,Crack Shadow Boxers(also with Ku Feng),Duel to the Death.DAI SAI AAN who is also called Squinty is known for Buddhist Fist,Incredible Kung Fu Master,Crystal Fist,Dirty Kung Fu,Kung Fu from Beyond the Grave.The Fourth Invincible is TO SIU MING who also did mostly comedic Kung Fu roles in Project A,Hong Kong Playboys,Fake Ghost Catchers,Dead and the Deadly.

They each learn a different style taught by Ku Feng because they have different kind of handicaps.There is more hand to hand combat than weapons and they are out to hunt down JENG KEI YING who has starred in Fistfull of Talons,Rendevous with Death,Ironside 426,Kung Fu Zombie.
